The RockDove Story

RockDove was founded in 2002 by five birdwatchers of the Los Angeles Audubon Society, who originally ran a beachside workshop in Santa Monica, California that resoled hiking boots. After fifteen years of catering to the footwear needs of avid adventurers, their customers requested a quality indoor shoe to soothe their weary, high-mileage feet. In response, RockDove handmade five pairs of slippers for their longtime Audubon customers, marking the beginning of their slipper company.

The Experiment

Recognizing the lack of attention paid to slippers by shoe brands in sunny southern California, RockDove leveraged their expertise in comfortable, long-lasting footwear to design slippers using materials like memory foam, gel insoles, and anti-shock cushioning. When they sent out a newsletter about their experimental slippers, the overwhelming customer response of 350 mail orders led them to name their creation after the ubiquitous rock dove (pigeon) found in their local area.

RockDove's legacy of creating footwear for the most exhausted, adventure-weary feet continues to this day. However, they recognize that adventure manifests in various forms, not just outdoor expeditions. Their slippers are designed to provide comfort for anyone who spends significant time on their feet, from teachers and nurses to postal workers and traffic cops.

The Sweet Spot Comfort Level

RockDove's quest for the ultimate comfort level led them to become early adopters of high-density memory foam in slippers. After collaborating with local sleep experts to source memory foam, they meticulously adjusted the density and firmness ratings to achieve the perfect "sweet spot" - one that offers incredible comfort without feeling like walking in quicksand. Today, each RockDove slipper features a multilayered foam construction, including memory foam, support foam, and anti-shock EVA layers.
